Visitors from Bad Koenigshofen, Germany, are welcome to the Department of Modern Languages by Dr. Barbara Berthold, assistant chair of the department and professor of German.

On September 27, more than 30 visitors from Bad Koenigshofen, Germany, explored Arlington and engaged in numerous activities that highlighted what the city has to offer. The group’s first stop was at the Department of Modern Languages. After a brief overview of the history of the relationship between the two cities given by BK’s mayor, Thomas Helbling, and Arlington’s Sister Cities’ program director, Sheri Capehart, students and visitors engaged in a lively exchange that left an impact on visitors and hosts alike. What one student wrote on her midterm reflection sums the experience up nicely: “I think that the most important thing that I have learned would have to be the relationship with the sister cities. This is more important than some of the other things such as who is the current chancellor because that is ever-changing. The 70+ year relationship with Bad Königshofen is important because it brings us together with them and helps show what our countries can grow through and how the past does not always define the future.
